There are many theories concerning how magnetic therapy works. Although many scientists agree-the use of magnets appear to increase circulation, promote healing and relieve pain, there is a disagreement on exactly how this happens. One popular theory proposes that the magnets temporarily ionize the blood. This is accomplished because the iron in the blood is ionized when it passes through a magnetic field in much the-same way that a needle is temporarily magnetized when rubbed on a magnet. The ionized blood in turn provides more energy at the atomic level, helping to promote the chemical reactions that normally occur in our bodies. Another theory proposes that the ionized blood temporarily causes interference to the electrical impulses at the nerve endings, effectively blocking the pain impulses while at the same time relaxing muscles that restrict the capillaries, causing increased blood flow.
